Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Psalms 116:15
In reference to this scripture above, it tells us in the Tyndale Study Bible reference guide that ”God stays close to us even in death”. When someone we love is nearing death, we may become angry and feel abandoned; but believers (the Lord’s loved ones) are precious to God. He carefully chooses the time when they will be called into his presence. Let this truth provide comfort when you have lost a loved one. God sees and each life is valuable to him.
I am so thankful that He loves us so much and if we have given our hearts to Him his spirit dwells within us to help and guide us. God gives us that peace that passes all understanding. I hope and pray each of you has God’s peace within you. I do know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He wants us to have it. May He continue to bless and lead each one of you.
Thank you so much for all you do to help preserve the beauty of the cemetery and the memories it holds.
GPR WORK
The company is almost complete with the paperwork on the GPR work. All the field work is complete. They have now identified 158 graves with no marker at all. There are 83 in the woods behind the church that have been passed down to us as being Slave and Indian graves. At our last meeting the committee decided to have Giles Marble and Monument Co. (who had the best price) to install small markers over these graves. Although we have no way of knowing who is buried there, at least we know someone is, and now will be permanently marked and honor them.

I would like to thank all of our members for the work you do. It is very valuable and couldn’t be done without you.
We welcome two new members to our committee, Bobby Basford and Greg Smith.
Bobby Basford was born and grew up in Jacksonville, Fla. His mom and dad are Afton and Rebecca Thomas Basford. He furthered his education at Southern Tech in Marietta, Ga. He was married to Linda Atcheson of Roswell, Ga. Linda passed away in 2002. They have 2 daughters. Bobby lives in Woodstock, Ga. He retired as Senior Engineer from Lucent Technologies. He has a strong interest in genealogy and local history. In fact is a member of four different historical societies. He is especially interested in Haynes Creek because so many of his family are buried here. His grandparents, great grandparents and more.
Greg Smith is married to one of our newer members, Dey Smith. They have been married for 22 years and have two children. He grew up in the Loganville area and graduated from Loganville High School. His family has lived in Walton County since the early 1800’s. They received land from the land lotteries and lived along the Alcovey River in Between, Ga. Haynes Creek has a special place in his heart since he has attended many family reunions here and several generations of his family are buried here including his mom, grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents and more.
We are so grateful Bobby & Greg agreed to serve on our committee. I know they both will be an asset to the preservation of memories of those gone on before.
I am saddened to report to you that Martha Allen, a member of our committee passed away 10-31-14. Martha and her deceased husband Marshall have worked on the committee for many years. They have worked very hard to preserve the cemetery and its memories. In fact Martha was the Secretary of the committee several years and was featured in
the 2013 newsletter. Martha will be missed by all of us that knew and loved her. May God continue to bless and lead her family and friends in her passing.

COPING
This is another reminder to do coping on your site if you haven’t already done so. I know this is an old reminder you have read many times, but there are still many that haven’t been done. This is in many cases the only means we have of knowing that it belongs to someone.
MAILING LIST
Please notify us if you have family members that could be on our list. Remember the more family members we have the better. You as family are the life blood for the preservation/ improvement of the cemetery. Please notify Larry Rutledge at 770-972-2008 or e-mail at larry_rutledge@bellsouth.net.
BEFORE YOU DIG
Before you have a grave dug you must notify Chris Rutledge at 770-861-2528. This helps us better manage the grounds and our records. We have been having a problem with grave diggers dumping extra dirt on the property. Because some will not adhere to No Dumping signs posted and dump anyway, we have imposed a $1000.00 charge per incidence of dumping on church property. So please be sure to advise your funeral home of this because they will be billed for it.
WORK DAYS
Everyone is invited to our two work days we have each year. Their dates are Saturday before Thanksgiving and the 3rd Saturday in April at 9:00 a.m. and we usually are finished by 1 p.m. Come and bring your rake, shovel, etc. and we will have a great time fellowshipping while we work to help preserve our historic cemetery.

MEMORIAL SERVICE
Our last service March 23, 2014 was very good. We had the largest attendance yet. It was a good time of remembering those gone on before us and honoring our Lord Jesus Christ.
Out next service is scheduled for April 26, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. inside the church. Please plan to be there and bring someone with you.

PEOPLE OF THE PAST
Austin Webb was a significant Georgia pioneer. He was born in Virginia on February 14, 1757. Austin enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1779. He served in Captain Joseph Hall’s Company under Colonel Elijah Clarke’s Georgia Regiment. Throughout this time he encountered several battles, such as the battle of Kettle Creek, battle at Lawson’s Fork of the Pacolet River, battles around Augusta, both sieges of Savannah, and engagements with the Cherokee Indians and Tories. He married Ailsey Waters in 1783. His children were John D. Burrell, Wiley Waters, Martha, Charlotte, James D., Luisa Fances, Mary Polly, Archibald, William and Catherine. From the time of his marriage forward Austin began purchasing lands in various counties, such as Franklin, Morgan and Walton. The Webb family relocated to Walton County between 1827 and 1828. Austin lived in Walton County until his death on July 31, 1839. This outstanding Georgian is buried here but has no tomb marker.
Wiley Waters Webb was born in 1793 to Austin and Aisley Waters Webb, in Elbert Co. Ga. He moved to Gwinnett Co., Ga. with his family in the early 1820’s.
Wiley Webb was married to Elizabeth “Betsy” Morris who was the daughter of Sherod and Betsy Darnell Morris on November 9, 1816, in Elbert Co., Ga. They raised 11 children in Gwinnett Co. While in Gwinnett Co., Wiley became a very prosperous farmer and in the 1860 Federal Census, his real estate was valued at almost $20,000 and his personal estate was valued at over $25,000. He was one of the wealthiest citizens
of Gwinnett Co. The upcoming
War would change all of this.
During his years of living in Gwinnett Co., Wiley accumulated almost 3,000 acres. He was one of the largest land owners in Gwinnett Co. in the 1860 census. When the Yankees came through Gwinnett, they took everything that Wiley had. What they did not take they burned it if it was of no use to them. His house was located off of Rosebud and Pate Roads.
Betsy Webb died May 2, 1852 and was buried here. Wiley Webb lived until the end of the war. In Nov. 1865, Wiley Webb died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he too was also buried here at the cemetery.
His grave marker is located behind the church, Sec. 1-116, and it is near a number of unnamed graves in which his wife Betsy could be buried in, as her grave is unmarked.
Wiley Waters Webb, Jr. was the son of Wiley Waters Webb and Elizabeth Morris. He married Lucinda Frances Donaldson on the 2nd of January, 1859. She was the daughter of Rubin Donaldson and Margaret Rutledge of Gwinnett Co. He served with Company I 55th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A. He was captured at Cumberland Gap, Merryweather Co, September 9,
1863. He was taken to Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinios, September 24, 1863 and was a Confederate Army Prisoner for 2 years. He was discharged at Camp Douglas on June 15, 1865. He was living in the Bay Creek District of Gwinnett County, when the 1880 census was taken in June. He died Nov. 18, 1901 and was also buried here at the cemetery
We are so thankful for the memories of these and many others buried here. Please send us any info on your family members that we can possibly share. Remember even though they have died our goal is to keep their memories alive. That is one of the best ways to honor them so please send them to us.
